Level 1: Working Context

What the agent needs to know for the current task. Your pricing, the client name, the project type.

Level 2: Session Memory

What happened in recent interactions. Corrections made, preferences expressed, decisions taken.

Level 3: Persistent Memory

What the agent should know permanently. Your communication style, pricing policies, internal procedures, specifics about your regular clients.

Level 4: Artifacts

The documents, files, and outputs the agent has produced. It needs to be able to find and reference them.

Without these 4 levels, your agent is a genius with Alzheimer’s.

The Real-World Difference

Without memory architecture:

  • “Draft a proposal for the client.” → Generic proposal.
  • “No, you already did this last week — it was good but the price needed to change.” → “I don’t have access to our previous conversations.”
  • 20 minutes lost. Mediocre result.

With memory architecture:

  • “Draft a proposal for the client.” → The agent retrieves the template used, the agreed price, past revisions, and client preferences. Complete proposal in 30 seconds.
  • 0 minutes lost. Excellent result.

How to Apply This to Your Business

You don’t need to build a memory system like Google’s. You need a simple system that works.

1. Structure your core data

Put your business information into files that AI can read: pricing, templates, procedures, client profiles. Not locked inside closed software — in accessible files.

2. Keep a history

Every AI interaction that produces a useful result should be saved in a way the agent can retrieve it. This is the simplest and most effective form of “memory.”

3. Define your permanent rules

The things that never change: your company name, your tone, your policies. The agent should have these permanently, not re-ask for them every conversation.

4. Work with someone who’s already doing it
