Generative Engine Optimization for SMBs

AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are answering your customers' questions right now. We make sure your business gets cited, not just ranked.

The search landscape has split

More than 40% of searches now involve AI-generated answers. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity summarize information and cite their sources directly in the response. If your business is not structured as a citable source, you are invisible to that audience, regardless of where you rank on traditional search.

Traditional SEO gets you ranked. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), also called Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), gets you cited. The two work together, but GEO requires different signals: structured data, AI-readable content architecture, accessible crawlers, and passage-level writing that AI models can extract and quote with confidence.

We implement GEO as a standalone service or alongside our SEO, content, and social media offering. Both approaches are built for the Quebec market and are available in English and French.

What's included

  • AI crawler accessibility: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot configuration and robots.txt audit
  • Structured data optimization: JSON-LD schema markup for AI comprehension and rich result eligibility
  • llms.txt implementation: llms.txt and llms-full.txt files that give AI models a structured index of your site
  • Content restructuring: rewriting key pages into citation-ready passages that AI models can extract and quote directly
  • Brand mention signal building: authority content and external reference strategy to increase citation frequency
  • Monthly AI visibility reporting: tracking citation frequency across AI engines and progress benchmarks

How GEO differs from traditional SEO

Traditional SEO optimizes for position, the goal is to rank as high as possible in a list of blue links. GEO optimizes for citation, the goal is to be the source an AI engine quotes when it answers a question directly. These are different measures of success, and they require different techniques.

A well-ranked page can still be ignored by AI engines if it is not structured for extraction. Conversely, a page with strong AI-readable structure earns citations even when it does not hold the top traditional ranking. The strongest performing content does both.

GEO and traditional SEO are complementary. The technical foundation overlaps, fast, crawlable, well-structured sites perform better in both systems. But GEO adds a layer that conventional SEO work typically does not address: passage-level clarity, AI crawler permissions, machine-readable data, and the kind of factual, direct writing that AI models quote with confidence.

If you are already doing SEO, GEO extends it into the AI search layer. If you are starting from scratch, both can be built in parallel. Either way, the time to act is before your competitors structure their content for AI citation first.
